these shoes are made for metta

Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, Calif. Photograph by Aaron J. Sender

I visited December 30th for a day-long retreat on listening to the inner sound of silence — also known as nada yoga.

This photo speaks of stillness and motion — suggestion of both sitting and walking meditation — and a spacious timeless silence.

In the early days of Buddhism statues depicting the Buddha were taboo, and footprints often represented his presence/absence and continued impression.

No, these are not my shoes — but they must be somebody’s favorite pair. (If they are yours, let me know. I’d love to hear from you.)
